Welcome to my insane views on mobile phones and everything about them
Do you like mobile phones? Well I have a love/hate relationship between them and all the latest technology that revolves around them! Ever since they came into the public domain and caught the eye of the average person who's annual salary is NOT £3 Million a year, I've enjoyed knowing what's all the fuss about?
So when did mobile phones exit the world of the elite and enter the world of the average user? I remember popular culture sometimes in the late 80's smirking at people that used mobile phones and we do now. You know -- those smug (%*£*!*&"!!! ...well you know the rest.
But now it looks like it has come full circle with mobile phones now praising the 80's retro designs that sometimes you see now ....

...Just take a took at those buttons! I remember my TV remote controller's buttons in the 80's having those designs.
Don't get me wrong the phone looks great but hey its the new Sony Ericsson K810i!! A state-of-the-art phone. And by the way --its not just the handsets, but the accessories that revolve around them. I remember the Microsoft Zune Player looking very retro as well .
Gone are the simple 'pressy' buttons and now mobile phones have become a work of art and not just for making voice calls (or WAP or GSM or Texts etc ) |
The future is here with technologies coming together!
OK so we have Minutes and Texts , and still more minutes and texts but wait, here comes the dongles with unlimited broadband not for your mobile phone, but for your laptop computer that now has truly become mobile. I remember the very pricey pc slot cards you bought with laptop computers (I was working in a computer store at the time) My goodness , you would not want to actually be working (with you would be) as the line rental price would be incredible!
But that was then and this is now. And now you can bring the mobile to the laptop and not the laptop to the mobile. As it was mobile phones were each month trying to become more and more like computer systems , but now with wireless dongles that connect to Three or Orange you can bypass the BT Wire landline . I am guessing that this really is the end of the landline and being a slave to the BT line rental costs!
And then there is the Skype mobiles from the 3/three network that brings the internet even closer to the average user WHEN it comes to real connectivity bringing the internet to mobile phone.
I cannot wait until this all becomes mainstream and anyone can connect to the internet any way they want - landline, mobile --on the go , or even from a helicopter (Radio Controlled of course! from the safety of standing on the ground)
But lets face it when you talk about a mobile phone you talk about the ability of be mobile and that little fact can bring in other things as well , like the Nintendo Wii , Sony PS3 and Xbox and well all future things from these companies . These could become mobile phones aswell in the race to be the domainent feature in the living room they could also one day be mobile themselves as they do already have the ability to connect to the internet. So if all devices can connect to the Internet and those connections could be wireless why do we need the old fashioned telephone?
